Support Teacher Learning Difficulties

The Support Teacher Learning Difficulties (STLD) provides specialist teaching to meet the educational needs of students with learning difficulties and learning disabilities. In consultation with parents and school personnel the STLD. assists the class teacher to provide a broad range of learning support options for students with special needs.

Students with difficulties in literacy, numeracy and 'learning how to learn' are referred through the Special Needs Committee by school personnel or parents. The Special Needs Committee meets regularly to discuss and prioritise student cases. Prior to assessment, parent permission is requested. The assessment process provides an increased awareness of the individual student's needs and may involve Appraisement of the student.

Support or intervention programs are implemented to address the identified needs of the student. The STLD liaises with parents, other professionals and agencies to support student outcomes.
