Support Teacher Learning Difficulties
The Support Teacher Learning Difficulties (STLD) provides
specialist teaching to meet the educational needs of students with learning
difficulties and learning disabilities. In consultation with parents and school
personnel the STLD. assists the class teacher to provide a broad range of learning
support options for students with special needs.
Students with difficulties in literacy, numeracy and 'learning
how to learn' are referred through the Special Needs Committee by school personnel
or parents. The Special Needs Committee meets regularly to discuss and prioritise
student cases. Prior to assessment, parent permission is requested. The assessment
process provides an increased awareness of the individual student's needs and
may involve Appraisement of the student.
Support or intervention programs are implemented to address
the identified needs of the student. The STLD liaises with parents, other professionals
and agencies to support student outcomes.

Speech-Language Pathologist
Education Queensland employs Speech-Language Pathologists
to allow for the integration of speech-language therapy within the students'
educational programs. Children at Eagle Junction State School and Preschool
can be referred to the Speech-Language Pathologist through the Special Needs
Committee. Children referred may have problems in any of the following areas
- Language (e.g. meaning, grammar, use, metalinguistics, social skills), speech
sounds, fluency and voice. Support provided is based on individual students'
needs.
The range of services provided include assessment, program
development, class programs, teacher consultation, individual or group programs,
involvement in Ascertainment and parent consultation.

Guidance Officer
The school Guidance Officer visits the school on a weekly
basis. The role involves assisting the school in consultation with parents/caregivers
and school personnel to address the learning and adjustment difficulties of
students. Referrals to the Guidance Officer can be initiated by the parents
or school personnel through the Special Needs Committee. Parental permission
is requested prior to the Guidance Officer being involved.
An outcome of this referral can be the identification of
individual student needs, an increased understanding of a student's strengths
and weaknesses and the development of strategies and processes reflected in
individual student programs.
The Guidance Officer liaises with other agencies and support
personnel and assists with the Ascertainment process to support academic, social,
behavioural and emotional needs.

Advisory Visiting Teacher - Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Ms Lorraine Hoare visits the school on a regular basis to
assist teachers with the Education and management of students identified with
this disorder.

English as a Second Language
Ms Jan Bycroft visits the school once a week to work with
students identified as needing assistance with English acquisition. These students
are from Non English Speaking Backgrounds.
